Gardasil Linked to Seventy-Eight
Outbreaks of Genital Warts

Tuesday, November 11, 2008 by: Joanne Waldron

(NaturalNews) The Gardasil vaccine has been linked to
78 outbreaksof genital warts, according to an article in
The Fiji Times entitled "Are our girls guinea pigs?"
by Matelita Ragogo.
That's right. In addition to all of the other adverse reactions
to this controversial vaccine, children who receive it
are subject to outbreaks of genital warts. Unfortunately,
not too many doctors take the time to educate parents
about some of these possible reactions prior to giving
little girls this expensive jab.

Deaths, Miscarriages and Other Adverse Events
While genital warts are certainly disgusting, parents
who think that genital warts are the worst possible
adverse reaction to the vaccine should think again.
According to Ragogo, as of August 14th, including
the 78 outbreaks of genital warts, there have been
9,748 adverse events reported as per Judicial Watch,
a non-profit watchdog group. Judicial Watch also reports
that there have been 21 deaths, not including the deaths
(by miscarriage) of 10 unborn babies.

Vaccine No Guarantee Against Cell Abnormalities
"Hundreds of thousands of women who are vaccinated with Gardasil
and get yearly pap testing will still get high-grade dysplasia
(cell abnormalities)," Ragogo reports. It's not a cancer vaccine,
as media hype may lead some people to believe. Ragogo also points out,
"Gardasil has been shown to prevent precancerous lesions,
but it has been impossible to ascertain whether it will
actually prevent cancer because the testing period has been so short."

80% of Cervical Cancer Deaths Happen in Developing Countries
According to an article by the King County Health Department
in Washington, the "average age of women newly diagnosed with
cervical cancer is between 50 and 55 years," and "risk of
developing this cancer is very low among girls less than fifteen."
How long will any possible immunity from a vaccine given to a
tiny girl last? No one really knows. So, young girls are being
vaccinated for potential problems that they may experience 40 years
down the road, if at all, at which time any possible immunity
conferred from the vaccine may be long gone. Of course,
according to an article by the World Health Organization (WHO),
80% of all cervical cancer deaths happen in developing countries, anyway.

Diets Low in Fruits And Vegetables up Cervical Cancer Risk
The King County Health Department also points out that of the various
risk factors for cervical cancer, many can be controlled. One risk factor
for cervical cancer is HPV. (Hmmm… does this mean that girls who
get the vaccine and develop genital warts are now actually increasing
their risk for developing cervical cancer?) Ordinarily, getting HPV
is not exactly a huge risk for little girls that aren't having sex.
Other risk factors include smoking, HIV, race (African American,
Latino, Vietnamese and Native American women are more likely to die
from cervical cancer), reduced access to health care, and (possibly)
the use of oral contraceptives. The article also states, "Diets low
in fruits and vegetables are associated with an increased risk of
cervical cancer and several other cancers."

Could The Vaccine Cause Cancer, Genotoxicity or Infertility?
Another concern about the HPV vaccine is that it hasn't even been
evaluated for its potential to actually cause cancer. Nor has the vaccine
been evaluated for the ability to cause genotoxicity (DNA damage).
Moreover, it is also unknown as to whether or not this vaccine could
possibly cause future infertility. For all of these reasons,
and many others that have been previously reported, it would appear
prudent for all parents to think twice before subjecting their
children to this "mystery" jab.

Gardasil Jab Linked to Pancreatitis -
Australian Doctors Demand a Review

Wednesday, September 17, 2008 by: Joanne Waldron

(NaturalNews) Australian doctors are demanding a review
of the controversial Gardasil vaccine after three girls
developed pancreatitis shortly after being given the HPV jab,
according to an article in The Sydney Morning Herald.
Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Association (TGA) is now
conducting an investigation into the matter. There have
also been reports of girls suffering from pancreatitis
after receiving the HPV vaccine in the United States, as well.

What is Pancreatitis?
According to an article by the National Institute of Diabetes
and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK), acute pancreatitis
begins with severe abdominal pain. Other symptoms may include
swelling, fever, nausea, vomiting, and rapid pulse. In more
severe cases, there may be a drop in blood pressure and dehydration.
Sometimes the heart, lungs or kidneys may fail. If there’s bleeding
in the pancreas, shock and death are also a possibility.
Treatment for pancreatitis often includes intravenous fluids,
oxygen, antibiotics, or surgery.

Three Cases in Australia
One of the Australian women to develop pancreatitis was a
26-year-old who was hospitalized for four days after receiving
her first dose of the Gardasil vaccine. According to the Medical
Journal of Australia, the woman developed a fever, rash,
excruciating pain and vomiting and had to spend ten days in
the hospital. Dr. Amitabha Das and colleagues reported that they
could find no other cause for the pancreatitis and said while
they could not rule out the fact that the disease could be a
coincidence, "neither can HPV vaccination be excluded as a
potential cause." In fact, they felt that in cases of abdominal
pain following HPV vaccination, pancreatitis should definitely
be considered. While the second Australian girl’s problems cleared
up quickly, a third Australian girl is still reportedly under the
care of a gastroenterologist.

More Cases in the U.S.
In addition to the cases of pancreatitis occurring after the
HPV vaccine in Australia, there have been similar reports in American
women. For example, CNN Medical Correspondent, Elizabeth Cohen,
reports that the family of Jesalee Parsons has filed suit in federal
vaccine court. Jesalee developed acute pancreatitis within hours of
having the vaccine and had to have an operation to remove part of
her pancreas. The poor girl missed months of school and still
doesn’t feel well.

How much more do parents need to read about before they stop
subjecting their little girls as young as nine to this vaccine?
This is a vaccine for which the long-term side effects are completely
unknown. Moreover, this vaccine has never been proven to prevent cervical cancer.

Eating Just Two Brazil Nuts a Day Ensures
Adequate Selenium Levels

NaturalNews) Brazil nuts are the best way
to add selenium to your diet. A recent study
at the University of Otago in New Zealand found
that eating just two Brazil nuts a day is as effective
in increasing selenium status and enhancing glutathione
peroxidase activity as a recommended dosage of
selenomethionine. Inclusion of this high-selenium food
in the diet could avoid the need for fortification or
supplements to improve selenium levels.

Researchers operating with the knowledge that Brazil nuts
provide a rich natural source of selenium sought to
investigate the bioavailability of this selenium in humans.
They investigated the efficacy of Brazil nuts in increasing
selenium compared to that of selenomethionine, believed to be
the preferred supplement because of its high bioavailability.
A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 59 New Zealand
adults. Participants consumed 2 Brazil nuts, selenomethionine,
or a placebo. Plasma selenium and plasma and whole blood
glutathione peroxidase activities were measured at baseline
and at intervals following treatment.

Changes in plasma selenium and glutathione peroxidase activity
in the Brazil nut and selenomethionine groups differed
significantly from the placebo group but not from each other.
The change in whole blood glutathione peroxidase activity was
greater in the Brazil nut group than in the placebo and
selenomethionine groups.

Selenium is a trace mineral that is essential to good health
but required only in small amounts. It is used in creating
important antioxidant enzymes that help prevent cellular damage
from free radicals. Free radicals are natural by-products of
oxygen metabolism that are seen to contribute to the development
of chronic diseases like cancer and heart disease. Selenium is also
critical for proper thyroid functioning and plays a role
in the immune system.

The content of selenium in food depends on the selenium content
of the soil in which plants are grown or animals raised. Much of
the overall mineral content of the soils used in modern agriculture
is depleted, so people have been turning more and more to supplements
to get the needed amount of selenium.

People with gastrointestinal disorders may have decreased absorption
of selenium, and people with iodine deficiency are particularly likely
to benefit from selenium supplementation. Findings from research
recently completed indicate that adequate selenium levels are correlated
with reduced levels of breast and prostate cancer. Research is currently
underway on the protective effects of selenium in humans against
aging, other cancers, heart disease, cataracts, arthritis,
Alzheimer’s disease, and HIV infection.

Glutathione peroxidase is the general name of an enzyme family with
peroxidase activity whose main role is the protection of organisms
from oxidative damage. Its biochemical function is to reduce lipid
hydroperoxides to their corresponding alcohols and to reduce free
hydrogen peroxide to water. Glutathione peroxidase is a selenium
containing glycoprotein. The integrity of the cellular and subcellular
membranes is heavily dependent on glutathione peroxidase, while the
antioxidative protective system of glutathione peroxidase itself is
dependent on the presence of selenium.

Link Seen Between Cooking and Cancer

                                                                                                                                                         By Mark Kaufman

The process of frying and baking starchy foods such as potatoes and bread causes the formation of potentially harmful amounts of a chemical listed as a probable carcinogen.

Swedish officials said they were so surprised by the information that they decided to make it public immediately, rather than wait for publication in a scientific journal.

The chemical, acrylamide, which is used industrially in the manufacture of some plastics, is also apparently formed by the heating of starches. Foods with especially high levels of the chemical included french fries, potato chips and crackers.

The governmental agency, following up on research by a group of scientists at Stockholm University, studied more than 100 foods bought in Swedish stores and restaurants and determined that "fried, oven-baked and deep-fried potato and cereal products may contain high levels of acrylamide."

The high acrylamide levels were initially discovered during a University of Stockholm study at a factory that used them industrially.

A Food and Drug Administration official said that the agency had not reviewed the report but that it considered the source to be "credible."

The Swedish report said that high doses of acrylamide have been shown to cause cancers and that "it seems reasonable to conclude that a significant number, perhaps several hundred, of the annual cancer cases in Sweden can be attributed to acrylamide."

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency describes acrylamide as white, odorless, flake-like crystals that are used mainly in treating drinking water and for industrial purposes and can cause cancer in people exposed to high levels for a long period.

Findings unveiled at a news conference called by the food administration showed that an ordinary bag of potato crisps may contain up to 500 times more of the substance than the top level allowed in drinking water by the World Health Organization (WHO).

WHO recommends one microgram (one-millionth of a gram) per litre as a maximum permitted for drinking water.

Researchers were surprised by the high levels found in both the workers and the people used for a control study. The Swedish government began testing acrylamide levels late last year and found that they were elevated in many starch-rich foods that had been baked or fried. They were not found, however, in raw or boiled foods, leading researchers to conclude they were formed by the cooking process.

Book Review:
Here's a fantastic new cookbook which finally makes healthy eating seem like a possibility.

Sally Errey is a Nutritionist who is also a serious researcher.  The facts are
out there about  what constitutes good health, and there is plenty of authentic research to back up those facts.

We really do need 10 serves of  fruit and veg a day, and whilst that may sound completely unmanageable to many, this book makes it clear that really it is quite easy to achieve. (half a cup is one serve, so not really all that much)

The recipes are simple - if they take any longer than 30mins, they are not allowed in the book - and they are very interesting with lots of variety in colour, texture and flavour.
Gone are the soggy, tasteless and heavy meals that we have mostly pictured as being what the 'healthy' ate.

You'll look forward to preparing and eating some really exciting food again.  Be prepared to feel much more energetic and to once again have a spring in your step.

Osteoporosis
is in the news again.
Did you know that too much animal protein is likely to hinder the absorption of calcium, so drinking milk is not the whole answer.  You need to get calcium from other than animal sources.
Actually there are plenty of them and if you have a good mixed diet, you can get plenty.   Almonds, sesame seeds, broccoli are some of the common ones.  Tinned fish with bones, such as salmon and sardines are really good, and when you have sardines on wholemeal and grainy toast, you really have a good deal.                The other really important point in the fight against osteoporosis is regular weight-bearing exercise.  So the happy chappies at the top of this page are doing their bit to keep their bones in good nick.

Aging and Recreational Drugs
A disturbing reaction to the re-use of Recreational drugs after only occasional use years ago has recently surfaced.  It was reported in the AFR 13-17 April 2006 that people who had only occasionally used drugs years ago, may have a dramatic and exaggerated response that can be harnful to their health.  Not only can it trigger a frightening psychological episode but it can set off a series of physiological reactions that could possible lead to a heart attack or a stroke.

IF YOU HAVE A POT BELLY OR SPARE TIRE, READ THIS
(quote from Barry Sears'book The Omega Rx Zone
Make no mistake about it, losing excess weight is important, but ony if you reduce your risk factors for heart disease and diabetes...Simply losing weight is not as important as losing abdominal fat...This is why your waist measurement is far more predictive of your health status than your weight on the scale.  Men who have a waist circumference larger than 40" and women larger than 35" are at increased risk of heart disease and type 2 diabetes.  A large waist measurement is indicative of increased abdominal fat, which can be more dangerous than excess fat on your hips and thighs.  That's because abdominal fat contains visceral fat, which surrounds organs (liver, intestines...)This type of fat is metabolically active, while subcutaneous fat-found mainly on your hips, thighs and extremities-is primarily used for long-term storage.  This metabolically active fat is implicated in the development of insulin resistance, which in turn increases insulin levels in the bloodstream.  Thus having too much visceral fat puts you at increased risk of diabetes, heart disease, cancer and gallbladder disease.

Here is some remarkably useful advice.  I have no idea where it came from, but it is certainly not original.  I thank whoever wrote it, and think they are happy for me to pass it on.

I am God.
Today I will be handling all of your problems.  Please remember that I do not need your help.
If life happens to deliver a situation to you that you cannot handle, do not attempt to resolve it.  Kindly put it in the SFGTD (something for God to do) box.  All situations will be resolved, but in My time, not yours.
Once the matter is placed into the box, do not hold onto it by worrying about it.  Instead, focus on all the wonderful things that are present in your life now.
If you find yourself stuck in traffic; don't despair.  There are people in this world for whom driving is an unheard of privilege.
Should you have a bad day at work; think of the man who has been out of work for years.
Should you despair over a relationship gone bad; think of the person who has never known what it's like to love and be loved in return.
Should you grieve the passing of another weekend; think of the woman in dire straits, working twelve hours a day, seven days a week to feed her children.
Should your car break down leaving you miles away from assistance; think of the paraplegic who would love the opportunity to take that walk.
Should you notice a new gray hair in the mirror; think of the cancer patient in chemo who wishes she had hair to examine.
Should you find yourself at a loss and pondering what is life all about, asking what is my purpose?  Be thankful.  There are those who didn't live long enough to get the opportunity.
Should you find yourself the victim of other people's bitterness, ignorance, smallness or insecurities;  Remember, things could be worse.  You could be one of them!
Should you decide to send this to a friend;  Thank you, you may have touched their life in ways you will never know.

A Grapefruit a Day Keeps Heart Disease at Bay
Consider the Grapefruit.  While most people know grapefruit is good for you, they still prefer to eat other citrus fruits because of grapefruit's bitter taste. A new study published in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry has elevated the status of the lowly grapefruit to new heights by showing that it can reduce cholesterol levels in the blood significantly, which helps to lower the risk of other conditions that could lead to heart disease.
The study involved 57 postoperative heart bypass patients who had high levels of triglycerides in the blood.  The patients were divided into three groups.  All three groups followed a standard anti-atherosclerosis diet for 30 consecutive days.  In two of the groups, patients also consumed one white or red grapefruit each day.  The third group did not receive any grapefruit and served as a control population.
While eating either kind of grapefruit appeared to reduce cholesterol levels, the cholesterol-lowering effects were much greater among patients who consumed red grapefruit.  In red grapefruit patients, total cholesterol levels were reduced 15.5 percent compared to the control patients, and total triglyceride levels were reduced more than 17 percent.

Berries - the biggest Anti-oxidant bang for your buck!
A landmark study published in Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry (June 9, 2004) shows that just one cup of berries provides all the disease fighting anti-oxidants you need in a single day.  This research provides the largest, most comprehensive report thus far of anti-oxidant content in fruits and vegetables.  Berries won, hands down, in providing the most anti-oxidant bang for your buck.
Scientists believe anti-oxodants help prevent and repair the stress that comes from oxidation, a natural process that occurs during normal cell function.  A small percentage of cells becomes damaged during oxidation and turn into free radicals, which can start a chain reaction to harming more cells and possibly disease.  Unchecked free radical activity has been linked to cnacer, heart disease, Alzheimer's disease and Parkinson's disease.
This newest study used updated technology to assess anti-oxidant levels in more than 100 foods, including fruits, vegetables, cereals, breads, nuts and spices. The rankings for the fruits were as follows:

Type of Fruit

Total Antioxidants per cup

Wild Blueberries

13,427

Cultivated Blueberries

9019

Cranberries

8983

Blackberries

7701

Raspberries

6058

Strawberries

5938

Black plums

4873

Sweet Cherries

4873

Red Grapes

2016

Peaches, mangoes and melons while scoring lower than berries, still contain plenty of antioxidants as well as other nutrients.  It's fabulous news considering that berries are very edible by the handful;  with morning cereal; mixed into yoghurt, or in smoothies.

A Little Sun a Day Keeps Vitamin D Deficiency Away
Sunshine, aside from being good for your soul, adds a very important element into your life - vitamin D. The sun works with the skin to produce vitamin D in your body. Although other forms of vitamin D are in some of the foods we eat, they still need to be processed to gain the benefits.
A study published in the Archives of Disease in Childhood evaluated a group of adolescent girls in an inner city school in the United Kingdom for vitamin D deficiency. Fifty-one girls between the ages of 14 and 16 were chosen to participate in the study. After measuring weight, height and body mass, the researchers distributed a questionnaire that evaluated the girls' daily intake of vitamin D, calcium and sunlight.
Thirty-seven of the girls (73 percent) were found to be vitamin D deficient, while nine (17 percent) of the students were considered severely deficient. The results indicated that the vitamin D deficiency was due to underexposure to sunlight.
Of course, too much sun can be a bad thing, particularly in terms of skin damage, so be careful. But a little a day can go a long way toward ensuring adequate intake of vitamin D. Walnuts: Enemy of "Bad" Fats
That old, dusty nutcracker sitting in your attic might be working overtime soon. In a recent study by a team from Barcelonas Hospital Clinico, walnuts have been shown to have more health benefits than olive oil. The research suggests eating these shelled snacks at the end of a meal may help to cut the damage that fatty foods do to arteries.
The study participants were chosen for either having normal or moderately high cholesterol levels. All the members were given two high-fat salami and cheese meals a week apart. Five teaspoons of olive oil were added to one meal and eight shelled walnuts were added to the other.
Although the results of the tests performed after the meals showed that both the olive oil and the walnuts helped to reduce the inflammation and oxidation that leads to the hardening of arteries, the walnuts seemed to preserve the flexibility and elasticity of the arteries. To find out the benefits of a healthy diet ask your chiropractor, or visit www.chiroweb.com/find/archives/nutrition/index.html
